Towards the end of 2008, S I Madressa introduced a new phase in its teaching process by introducing a Virtual E-learning (VLE) platform. The idea behind this online collaboration and virtual learning environment was to transform certain operations within SIM and this platform was about to open up doors to take SIM to the next level. Following its introduction and inception, VLE has become part and parcel of the system. Today, the SIM VLE consist of two parts:
- Online Submission of Quran and Salaat charts
- Online Assessments
Quran and Salaat charts
Salaat and Quran charts are today managed fully electronically from having been a pure paper exercise. The online submission has streamlined the whole process starting from submission to the administrative management of the record keeping and is saving admin from several hours of manual work every week. You can read more about charts here.
Online Assessments
On implementation of the VLE in 2008, a ground breaking phase in the history of S I Madressa was the first ever online assessment in the form of a Fiqh Assignment. The students were asked a set of 10 multiple choice questions and upon completion the system auto graded the assignment and student had the results with them in real-time.
Following the successful first online assignment, there is an increasing number of assessments and assignments being launched online, and in 2009, the Term 2 test was fully online for all classes (ages 9 to 15yrs).
Student Report
In addition to the VLE features the most recent feature is the Students Report online. This recently launched dashboard gives parents and students access to current as well historical data, enabling them to keep track of the charts and other records over a longer period in time. This would provide the facility to analyse the performance and identify areas for improvement. The Student Report can be accessed here (user login required)
