INTRODUCTION

Salaam Alaikum (Hello/Peace be on you - explain this concept of wishing them to be happy, and the reply. Ask them to repeat)

We are here to talk about Eid – a special festival for Muslims. There are 2 main Eids, and this one comes during Hajj. What is Hajj? Go to the city of Mecca (map) where the Kaaba is - special 'house of God'. Lots of people go, from many different places – name a few (or ask them)

STEPS OF HAJJ (after each step is explained, one child can come and demonstrate)

- Putting on Ehram – not allowed to be mean, hurt anybody, even animals – everyone's equal (rich or poor, white or black)

- Kaaba –Go around 7 times

- Maqame Ibrahim – 2 rakats – pray behind it

- Safa / Marwa – two mountains

- Zam zam water and its benefits

- Arafah – go to this place and think about how to be a better person – examples from them

- Feeding the poor, people who don't have as much as we do (food, ice-cream, nice clothes)

SONG – Put the CD on for the hajj song (see below) get your children to act out actions of Hajj during song. Can also give the lyrics/CD to the school to practise it with the other children in the school.

EID - When we've done all this, it is EID! Like Christmas/Diwali, etc

- Decorate house

- Eid prayers

- Visiting family – eat together

- Exchange gifts

- Think of those who have passed away

- Put on mehndi

- Give eid cards
