Obtain the pledge of allegiance from al-Husain ibn 'Ali without delay and under no circumstances allow him to delay."

(Waleed is sitting in his chair looking worried and shaking.)

Waleed: Servant!

Servant: Sir!

Imam Husain: (walks towards the male members of his family) Waleed has sent for me and I fear that he may ask me to do something that I will never agree to. Gather your weapons and wait outside Waleed's door. When you hear my voice being raised, come quickly to help me.

Scene Three

(Imam Husain's family waits outside to stand guard whilst Imam Husain walks in.)

Narrator: Waleed and Marwan bin Hakam are sitting when Imam Husain enters.

Waleed: (Rises out of respect) Salamun Alaykum, Husain ibn Ali. The Commander of the Faithful Muawiya has passed away, and his heir is Yazid.

Husain: You put lies into the mouths of the faithful when you call him the Commander of the Faithful. Who has made him that?

Marwan: Whether you like it or not, Husain, Yazid is now the Commander of the Faithful.

Husain: God help us. You heard my grandfather forbid leadership for the descendants of Abu Sufyan. (Pauses)

Do you not think my pledge of Allegiance is of no use in secret? Would you not want me to declare it in Public?

Marwan: Swear the oath of allegiance to Yazid now! It will be better for you -- in this life, and in the next.

Husain: A person like ME does not pay allegiance to a person like Yazid!

Marwan: (yelling loudly) Call your executioner, Waleed, and I will take his blood on my hands!

(Companions of Husain rush in, and Marwan backs off.)

Husain: Marwan! You dare kill me? You have lied, and you have sinned. Fear the next world!

Waleed: Let him go.

(Imam Husain and his companions leave.)

Marwan: (extremely angry) You disobeyed me, and now you will never be able to get your hands on him.

Waleed: We will wait until morning. I don't need to add the murder of the Grandson of the Prophet to the list of my misdeeds.

Scene Four

(Imam arrives at the Prophet's mosque, lights a candle and walks over to his grave, sits by the grave, places his cheek on it and sobs.)

Narrator: Imam started walking towards the Prophet's Mosque after he left Waleeds court, deep in thought.

Giving Allegiance to Yazid was out of question as it would mean accepting his way of life which would totally destroy Islam. He decided he had to leave Madinah as he did not want to put the life of his friends in danger. He also did not want anyone to think that he was fighting for Khilafat. Imam wanted to awaken the spirit of Islam and there was only one way, and that was MARTYDOM!

Imam Husain: I have come to say farewell to you O grandfather. I have to leave Madina to save Islam. Pray for me O grandfather – pray that Allah grants me patience.

Voice of the Prophet (saw): Husain! I see you now. Your body is smeared in blood, and grief and trials surround you. My followers have cut off your head. You were thirsty, but they denied you water. And they still dare to ask for my intercession. May God keep my intercession from them. Husain! Your father, mother, and brother are with me, and we are waiting for you. Your place in jannah is ready for you, but it is so great that you must be martyred to achieve it.

Imam Husain: Grandfather, I don't want to go back to this world. Take me with you, into your grave.

Voice of the Prophet: You must go back, and be martyred. Earn the reward which Allah has prepared for you. On the Day of Judgement, you and I and your father Ali will be resurrected together and enter Paradise.

Imam Husain: Grandfather.... (looking down weeping)
