A Short Play on Surah Jumah (7-10 mins)
Narrator: Surah Jumah is the 62nd Surah of the Holy Quran. Today we are going to present to you a play on Surah Jumah showing the importance of Namaze Jumah and how we can implement it in our lives.
Azra and Almas are walking together to the mosque for the Friday prayer.
Azra: You know what, I actually think that I am going to go the library instead of the mosque. I have tonnes of work to finish. Oh NOO! I just realized today is Friday, and the metro isn't working until 2!
Almas: I tell you what! Why don't you come to the mosque with me and then I'll take you to the library. My mom was going to drop me there anyways because I also have lots of work to finish.
Azra: Did you finish that Biology project?
Almas: No that's the one I want to do.
Azra: Then you know how big it is, and we really don't have time, I have so much to do. There is also a presentation and you know how shy in public I am.
Almas: Ok, so we can go after namaz. You know how how good it is to go for jumah namaz, Allah talks about it in the Quran! Infact, He also says in ayah 9 "O People who Believe! When the call for prayer is given on (Friday) the day of congregation, rush towards the remembrance of Allah and stop buying and selling; this is better for you if you understand." So see if you want Allah's help then you better come with me for namaz.
Azra: Ok fine but we HAVE to leave IMMEDIATELY after namaz.
Almas: Okay we'll see.
Narrator: Azra and Almas go to the mosque and pray Jumah namaz. As we all know with the recitation of Jumah namaz there is no need to pray Zohr namaz so they go ahead and pray Asr namaz in jamaat.
It is then announced that there will be a recitation of Surah Jumah. Azra wanted to leave whereas Almas wanted to stay and after a little arguing they decided to stay.
(Surah Jumaj recited from the back)
Azra: Himar! Doesn't that mean donkey?
Almas: Yeah it does, why?
Azra: What is being said about donkeys in the Quran.
Aunty: Shush quran is being recited (in kutchi or gujurati or urdu)
*Surah finishes*
Azra: What was that about donkeys in sura juma?
Almas: Oh yea about that. It is actually an example of the people who had the Taurat but didn't really take advantage of it. They didn't learn from it and these people are just like a donkey who carries books on its back but really can't benefit from it.
Azra: A bit like us eh ?
Almas: Hahaha yah.
Azra: You know in the mosque we have a treasure of a library that we really don't use.
Almas: yea we should make it a point to try to go at least once a week to the mosque library, or even read Quran with meaning. I mean in essence what we are doing?
Azra: Yeah but reading the Quran has its advantages, look at how much sawab we get, and...
Almas: Yes but is that all there is to the Quran, you know that story of Salman e-Farsi? There was once when the companions were sitting and talking about how much Quran they each recite daily and Salman said that all he read was one ayah a day, but used to read with meaning and reflection.
Azra: Yu have a point there. We should try to read the Quran with meaning, but not just the Quran also all our dua and so on.
Almas: Hmm.. let's make a plan...
Azra: Hey I've got a plan. Why don't we take an ayah from Surah Jumah and try to use it in our daily lives.
Almas: I'm going to do the 2nd Ayah of Surah Jumah. You know where it says that the Prophet rose from among his people and became like a source of guidance for them. You know he did this through his good manners. AND.. I want to follow him like that. I want to improve my manners a lot. I want to rise among my friends and be like the .. the ..
Azra: Donkey right?
Almas: No silly! I want to be like the best in my class.
Azra: Yeah good luck beating me!
Narrator: Azra and Almas came up with a plan on how to implement Surah Juma in their lives. There are lots of other lessons that we can take from Surah Juma and we hope that each of you will try and take atleast one ayah a day or a week and try and use it in your life. Thank you very much for being such attentive audience.
