Recitation and Meaning

Niyyat (Intention) - Beginning of Prayer

I OFFER MAGHRIB PRAYERS, 3 RAKATS, WAJIB

قُربَةً اِلَى الله

QURBATAN ILAL LAH,

I offer Zuhr prayers, 4 Rakats, seeking nearness to God, in obedience to Him

Takbirat-ul-Ihram (The First Takbir - Allah hu Akbar)

Lift both hands up to the ears and say

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

Allah is Great

First Rakaat - Qira-at (Recitation)

It is Wajib (essential) to recite Surah al Hamd, followed by any other complete Surah in the first two rakaats.

First Surah (Surah al Hamd)

بِسْمِ اَللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

BISMIL LAH HIR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM.

In the Name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the Merciful

الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ . الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

AL HAMDU LIL LAHI RAB BIL AALAMEEN. AR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM

All praises belong to Allah the Cherisher, the Sustainer, Developer and Perfector of the worlds, the most Compassionate, The Merciful

مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ . إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

MALIKI YAWMID DIN. IYYA KA NA'BUDU WA IYYA KA NASTA'EEN.

Master of the Day of Judgement. You  only do we Worship, and You alone do we ask for help

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ . صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ

IHDI NAS SIRATAL MUSTAQEEMA SIRAT AL LAZEENA AN AMTA ALAY HIM

Keep us along the straight path, the path of those whom You have blessed

غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

GHAIRIL MAGHZOOBI ALAIHIM WAL LAZ ZUAL LEEN.

Not of those whom You are angry with, nor of those who go astray.

Second Surah (Surah al Kausar)

بِسْمِ اَللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

BISMIL LAH HIR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM

In the Name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the Merciful

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ . فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ

INNA A'TAINAKAL KAUSAR. FASALLI LI RAB BIKA WAN HAR

To you have We granted the Fount (of abundance).Therefore, pray to your Lord and make Sacrifices.

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ

INNA SHANI AKA HU WAL ABTAR

Surely your enemy is the one cut off (from good).

SAY

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

Allah is Great

Rukuh (bend half-way down and keep both hands on your legs just above your knees)

سُبْحَانَ الله

SUBHAN ALLAH (3 times)

Glory to Allah

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّىَ الْعَضِيْمِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ

SUBHANA RAB BI AL AZEE MI WA BI HAM DIH

Free from All Defects is my Lord, and with His praise I bow

Straighten up, saying

سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

SAMI ALLAH HU LIMAN HAMIDAH

God listens to one who praises Him

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

Allah is Great

Sajdah (Go down to sajdah so that the forehead touches the place of sajdah directly - make sure that the material covering the head is not in the way.)

سُبْحَانَ الله

SUBHAN ALLAH (3 times)

Glory to God

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّىَ الْاَعْلى وَ بِحَمْدِهِ

SUBHANA RAB BI AL A'LAA WA BI HAMDIH

Free from all defects is my All-Highest Lord, and with His praise I adore Him

Sit up and say

اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبِّى وَ اَتُوْبُ اِلَيْهِ

AS TAGH FIR UL LAHA RABBI WA ATOOBU ILAIH

I ask Allah, my Lord, to cover up my sins and unto Him I turn repentant

Second Sajdah

سُبْحَانَ الله

SUBHAN ALLAH (3 times)

Glory to Allah

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّىَ الْاَعْلى وَ بِحَمْدِهِ

SUBHANA RAB BI AL A'LAA WA BI HAMDIH

Free from All defects is my All Highest Lord, and with His praise I adore Him.

Stand up saying

بِحَوْلِ اللهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ اَقُوْمُ وَ اَقْعُدْ

BI HAWL LIL LAHI WA QUWAT TI HI AQOOMO WA AQ'UD.

Due to the Vigour given by Allah, and because of the vitality from Him I rise and stand

Second Rakaat

First Surah (Surah al Hamd)

بِسْمِ اَللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

BIS MIL LAH HIR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM

In the Name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the Merciful

الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ . الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

AL HAMDU LIL LAHI RAB BIL AALAMEEN. AR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM

Second Surah (Surah Tawheed)

بِسْمِ اَللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

BIS MIL LAH HIR RAHMAN NIR RAHIM

In the Name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the Merciful

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ . اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ . لَمْ يَلِدْ

QUL HU WAL LAH HU AHAD, ALLAH HUS SAMAD, LAM YA LID,

Say He is God, the One, the Unique. God the Changeless, the Independent. He begets not,

وَلَمْ يُولَدْ . وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

WA LAM YU LAD, WA LAM YA KUN LA HOO KUFU WAN AHAD.

Nor is He Begotten. And there is no one equal to Him.

Qunoot (after Second Surah in 2nd Rakat - While still standing)

Raise your hands and bring them together in front of your face, with the palms of your hands raised up, inclined towards you. Say

رَبَّنَآ اتَنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً

RABBANA AATINA FIDDOONYA HASANATAWN

O our Lord! Bestow upon us good in this world

وَ فِى الْاَخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار

WA FIL AAKHERA-TI HASANATAWN WA QINA AZABAN NAR

And good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

Allah is Great

Rukuh

سُبْحَانَ الله

SUBHAN ALLAH (3 times)

Glory to Allah

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّىَ الْعَضِيْمِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ

SUBHANA RAB BI AL AZEE MI WA BI HAM DIH

Free from All defects is my All Highest Lord,and with His praise I bow

Straighten up, saying

سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

SAMI ALLAH HU LIMAN HAMIDAH

God listens to one who praises Him

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

Allah is Great

Sajdah

سُبْحَانَ الله

Sit up and say

Second Sajdah

Glory to Allah

Free from All defects is my All Highest Lord, and with His praise I adore Him.

Sit up and say

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR

God is Great

Tashahud

Then say the Tashahud (while still sitting)

اشْهدُ انْ لَا اِلهَ الَّا اللهُ

ASH HADU AN LAA ILAHA IL LAL LAH

I bear witness that there is no God except Allah

وَحْدَهُ لَا شرِيْكَ لَهُ

WAHDAHU LA SHARIKA LAHU

He is One, without any partner

وَ اشْهَدُ انَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهُ

WA ASH HADU AN NA MUHAMMAD AN ABDUHU WA RASOOLUH

And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger

الّلهُمَ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLA HUMMA SAL LI ALA MUHAMMADIN WA ALI MUHAMMAD.

O our God, bless Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad.

Stand up saying

بِحَوْلِ اللهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ اَقُوْمُ وَ اَقْعُدْ

BI HAWL LIL LAHI WA QUWAT TI HI AQOOMO WA AQ'UD.

Due to the Vigour given by Allah, and because of the vitality from Him I rise and stand

Third Rakaat

Say 3 times (while standing)

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَ لَا اِلهَ الَّا اللهُ وَ اَللهُ اَكْبَر

SUBHAN ALLAHI WAL HAMDU LIL LAHI WA LAA ILAHA IL LAL LAHU WALLAHU AKBAR (3 times)

Glory to God, all praise belong to God, and there is no God but Allah and God is Great

Rukuh

سُبْحَانَ الله

SUBHAN ALLAH (3 times)

Glory to Allah

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّىَ الْعَضِيْمِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ

SUBHANA RAB BI AL AZEE MI WA BI HAM DIH

Free from All Defects is my Lord, and with His praise I bow

Tashahud

Then say the Tashahud and then the salaam (while still sitting)

Salaam

السَّلامُ عَلَيكَ ايُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

ASSALAM MU ALAIKA AYYUHAN NABIYYU WA RAHMAT UL LAHI WA BARAKATUH

Peace be unto thee, O Apostle and the mercy of God and His bounties

السَّلامُ عَلَينَا وَ عَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِيْن

ASSALAM MU ALAINA WA ALA IBAD DIL LAHIS SUALIHEEN

Peace be unto us and unto the virtuous servants of God

السَّلامُ عَلَيكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

ASSALAM MU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATUL LAHI WABARAKATUH.

Peace be unto you all, and the mercy of God and his bounties.

اَللهُ اَكْبَر

ALLAH HU AKBAR (3 times)

God is Great.

لَا الَه الَّا الله

LA ILAHA IL LAL LAH

There is no God but Allah

الّلهُمَ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ الِ مُحَمَّدٍ

ALLA HUMMA SALLI ALA MUHAMMADIN WA ALI MUHAMMAD

O our God, bless Muhammad, and the Progeny of Muhammad.
