A Tailored Service - Learning Support

We have a duty to each and every one of the students to make sure they are learning how to live an Islamic way of life to the best of their abilities. But, do they all have the same ability and the skills needed to learn? Are we giving them all the help they need to leave Madressa with the skills and knowledge to be active Muslims both at home and in society? Before the community can ever be content with our achievements in providing an Islamic education, we need to examine how we are helping those students who are vulnerable or have additional needs to realise their full potential.

The Learning Support scheme was established to provide all our students with an equal opportunity to learn about Islam and to fully benefit from their time at Madressa. Our focus is on helping students having 1) difficulties in understanding, reading and writing 2) poor social interaction and communication skills 3) consistently poor test results in any of the 4 core subjects (Akhlaq, Quran, Fiqh and Tarikh) 4) any other learning difficulties or 5) problems with bullying. We aim to provide one-to-one or small-group assistance to students needing learning support whilst ensuring that they still benefit from being in a regular classroom environment. We hope to tailor the help we provide to meet the students individual needs and to provide specialist training to all staff.

In order for this scheme to work, we desperately need your help. Firstly, we need volunteers to assist as one-to-one or small-group helpers for students needing learning support. A few hours a week of your time could make a huge difference to the Islamic education that a child receives. Or, if you have any experience in teaching, education or special needs, we would really appreciate your help as a helper or as an advisor to the team.
Finally, if you have a child who you think may benefit from help from Learning Support, please let us know. Please be assured that all information will be treated with sensitivity and in the strictest of confidence.
